Sheriff Shannon M. Oliver

     Welcome to the History of the Sheriff's Office.  The photos shown for former Sheriffs of Franklin County are currently the only ones we have available.  We have a listing of former sheriffs dating back to 1819 and would love to include additional photos if anyone has some available.  If you have old newspaper articles or photos of any former sheriff that you would like to share with us for the website, please contact our office at 256-332-8811.  You may keep your originals, we will simply make copies for our use and to share with the Franklin County Archives.

     Sheriff Shannon Oliver graduated from Russellville High School and from the NE Alabama Police Academy. Sheriff Oliver began his law enforcement career in 1993 when then-Sheriff Plott hired him as a jailer. He later advanced to the position of Deputy before leaving in 2005 to join Russellville Police Department. During his time there, he rose to the rank of Captain and served in that role until he was elected Sheriff in 2011. He is currently serving his fourth term as Sheriff of Franklin County and has over 30 years of law enforcement experience.
